good morning, everyone. hi to robin at home. great to have elizabeth vargas right here. and there is lara, standing by in london with all the latest on the big baby news. we have a lot to go to on that. also at home, new developments in the tax showdown in washington. a deal has to get done by january 1st or everyone's taxes will go up. we'll talk about what it will take to get negotiations back on track. >> republicans had their proposal yesterday. we'll see what the reaction is. also, take a look at this video. is this the real-life grinch who stole christmas. the man caught on camera stealing christmas decorations. letting the air out of the whole thing. we'll get more on that in just a moment. also, jessica biel here live. what's life like right now being married to justin timberlake. also, a new movie, on the way, "playing for keeps." so much to talk to her about today. >> that is coming up. let's go to lara, live, all morning long, at buckingham palace with the latest details on the royal baby. good morning, lara.
7:02 am
>> good morning, george. what a joy to be here on this day of celebration here in england. folks cheering and giving a thumbs-up as they pass. buckingham palace behind me. and the papers shouting out the great news. there's the picture on "the times." "we're expecting." and i love this one. "kate expectations." but there is also a sense of concern for kate and the royal heir. just moments ago, prince william arrived back at the hospital to visit his pregnant wife, kate. the newly announced mother-to-be is being treated for a condition called hyperemesis gravidarum. the duchess needed to be hospitalized. the duchess needs to be hospitalized. william and kate were spending the weekend with her parents in buckle berry, when she took ill. the prince, along with their personal security team, drove

his wife reportedly in his range rover, 50 miles to this london hospital. where she was placed on an i.v. drip. rumors started swirling last fall, when kate passed on an offering of peanut paste. then in september when she toasted with water. but speculation went into superdrive last week when the couple was visiting cambridge. a smiling prince accepted a baby onesie, printed with the words "daddy's little co-pilot." two days later, kate appeared in high spirits while visiting her old prep school. even taking to the field hockey field in her high-heeled boots. >> we hope for a happy family ourselves. >> reporter: the couple who got engaged in 2010 have always been open about their desire to start a family. >> i think we'll take it one step at a time. we'll get over the marriage thing first. and then, look at the kids. but obviously, we want a family. so, we'll have to start thinking about that. >> reporter: almost immediately after they wed, the world was on royal baby watch. something the prince spoke to katie couric about in may. >> it is quite strange reading about it. but i try not to let it bother

7:05 am
now, kate did have at least three events scheduled this week. she won't be able to attend any of those. and her diary has been cleared for the immediate future. lara? >> thank you so much, lama hasan. and joining me right now is royal watcher, ingrid seward. thank you so much for joining us this morning. >> it's a pleasure. >> i want to talk to you about the scramble yesterday. reports this morning saying that the couple was not planning on celebrating the news and sharing it until christmas. so, how did it all happen yesterday? >> well, they didn't want to let it out. because she's probably about the ten-week mark. they knew when kate was seen going into the hospital, or someone would say something, that it would be out of their hands. and the media would have control of the announcement. and they wanted to have control of the announcement. so they quickly told the queen, prince charles, prince harry. and then, they made the announcement at 4:00 yesterday. >> and they seemed to get control of the situation. a situation that people have

7:09 am
>> right. so we go through a number of treatments. early on, we start with modifying the diet. small, frequent meals. ginger tea, or low doses of vitamin b-6. even acupressure can be helpful. if that doesn't work, then we see hospitalization with i.v. fluids. in severe or worse cases, anti-nausea pills. medications that work in the brain and the stomach. and in some cases, a semipermanent feeding tube. it is very, very serious. >> if she's been hospitalized this early in the pregnancy, that means there's a greater chance she'll be hospitalized again. >> off times, we see people coming back again. >> we've heard this could be an indication of there might be twins or possibly a girl. >> these are the associations we see in obstetrics all the time. more common with multiples. we'll have to stay tuned. >> then, we have the problem which twin is born first? >> and might be exciting. >> dr. jennifer ashton, thank you very much.

7:14 am
but speaker boehner did come to the white house for the party at the white house. for the annual congressional party for christmas. but this year, speaker boehner did not pose for a photograph with president obama. that raised some eyebrows certainly. it doesn't seem the two are getting along very well. but at some point, president obama will have to come into the negotiations and get involved himself. >> that meeting is not set yet. jake tapper, thanks very much. george, now, to the potentially lethal carbon monoxide leak at an atlanta elementary school. >> hubie: 50 teachers and students were sent to the hospital monday. firefighters discovered the unsafe conditions. and now, parents are asking, why the school reportedly had no carbon monoxide detectors located inside. steve osunsami has the story. >> reporter: it was a shocking scene, played out on live television. >> i saw kids passing out. i saw them shivering. i saw some kids just moving around like they were dizzy.
